Two cherries were popped recently here at MIMP.

Jonathan Clay and Zach Chance, also known as the band Jamestown Revival, recently became the first men to be photographed for MIMP. And while they weren’t peeling off layers of attire during the shoot, they certainly held nothing back when we chatted in their studio a few days later, at which point they became my first three-way…interview. For the record, they were absolute gentlemen and an absolute blast. (Besides, ladies, Jonathan is married. But Zach isn’t, and has one helluva mustache. Just saying.)

As a new music fiend in Los Angeles, I’d already heard good things long before we met about this band-on-the-rise, whose folksy, bluesy, harmony-driven and southern-infused songs are as honest as they are poetic.

You don’t have to take my word for it, either. We here at MIMP have your back, and you can watch Jamestown Revival perform the song “Fur Coat Blues,” from their upcoming full-length album, Utah. Rival Sons Rock Long Beach

Last night I had the pleasure of attending a Rival Sons show at Fingerprint Records in Long Beach. It was a special show for superfans picking up the new album, Head Down, a few days early and catching a taste of the band’s upcoming European tour. (Head Down comes out on March 19th in the US.)

I interviewed the band for www.MeInMyPlace.com and we got a great pictorial with the band as well. Keep your eyes out on the site for that piece coming soon!

Hey MIMP readers! Would you rather see a pictorial featuring a beautiful blonde bookworm, a Swedish-Canadian nature enthusiast, or a gorgeous girl-next-door with werewolf blood coursing her veins?

That’s a trick question. Meet Kristen Hager, who is all of the above. You may recognize her as her werewolf counterpart, Nora, on the SyFy Network series, Being Human, or from her numerous other TV appearances and feature films, which include Wanted (with Angelina Jolie) and Alien vs. Predator: Requiem. You can also see her later this year in the romantic comedy, Right Kind Of Wrong, where she stars alongside Ryan Kwanten (of True Blood fame).

Kristen and I spoke recently at the end of a long day (she’s currently shooting an indie feature in which she plays a heroine addict, but more on that later). When we spoke, I immediately noticed a couple of things about Kristen—most notably that she is incredibly gracious and easy to speak with, and that she has the sexiest laugh.

When she’s not busy fighting the vampire or alien hoards, Kristen can be found cozying up at home with a cup of tea and a good book or getting physical in the great outdoors. But as the Bossman here at MIMP always says, that’s enough from me. Kristen Hager, tell it like it is and show us what you’ve got! ;)

If you’ve heard of The Avett Brothers, you’re probably a huge fan. At least, that’s the general consensus I’ve come to, based on my extensive internet research (does Facebook count?) in preparation for my interview with Seth Avett. He’s one half of the duo (and brothers) that lead this, folky, bluegrassy, rock ‘n rolly, and enigmatic trio (Bob Crawford’s their bassist and only non-brother) from North Carolina. And while I’m only kidding about the Facebook research (sort of), their music, which has been described as “epically genuine” can move even the most critical musicphile. But again, you have to know them first to love them. I’m not a hardcore music reviewer, I don’t speak that language, but I can certainly give you a vivid description of their latest album “The Carpenter”—which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart last month.

They have managed to channel the spirituality of Mumford & Sons, the spunkiness of Ben Folds, the intimacy of Bon Iver, with a raw energy that feels more like listening to a live performance than a studio album. It’s eclectic and joyous, in the best ways possible.

A few noteworthy highlights from their career so far; Rolling Stone Magazine called them the “Artists to Watch in 2009,” with the album “I and Love and You” peaking at #16 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums (#1 on the folk album chart). Paste Magazine also crowned it their Album of the Year. In 2011 they performed at the Grammys, joining Bob Dylan and Mumford & Sons for a rendition of Dylan’s counterculture war cry “Maggie’s Farm.” Which I can only describe (with all journalistic integrity) as AMAZEBALLS! So how is it that they’ve managed to remain relatively under the radar for over ten years? With the new album released last month and the exposure they’re receiving from their new Gap ad, that won’t be the case much longer. (Side note to my ladies—have you seen the blue eyes and dimples on these boys?!? Hubba hubba!) I had a chance to speak with Seth, as the band was putting the finishing touches on the album. His North Carolina drawl and easy conversation immediately charmed me, while making me extremely self-conscious about how much I curse when I talk. (Don’t fuck this up, Pisha, he’s clearly a gentleman!)
